Tollgate Farm (Grass): Tollgate Farm in North Bend, Washington, is a site rich in history and deeply rooted in the heritage of the Snoqualmie Valley. Originally serving as a toll stop from 1884 to 1887 on the first road connecting Seattle to Snoqualmie Pass, the farm earned its name from the tolls once collected there. Long before that, the area was a vital crossing point over the South Fork of the Snoqualmie River, used by Native Americans and early settlers alike. Over the years, the land has hosted a variety of uses—from a military fort and hotel to a dairy farm and orchard—each adding a new chapter to its evolving story. In the early 2000s, when the land was threatened by commercial development, the Trust for Public Land stepped in to preserve its 370 acres as public open space. Today, Tollgate Farm is a cherished community park, offering sweeping views of Mount Si, a preserved historic farmhouse, and a central meadow that continues to serve as a gathering place for recreation, education, and reflection on the region’s rich past.
